Some Sad News and some Good News from The Modern Diary

My Uncle Dan passed away this past month.  He flew to Arizona for a Spring Break trip and collapsed in the airport.  It took a bit for his body to come back to Wisconsin, so last week we had the funeral.  Combine that with my Mom's health declining (she went in for chemo and changed her mind since the prep caused another heart attack) I decided to go be with the family for the week.  I tried hard to pace myself so I would not get worse again this summer as I did last summer.  Here is my uncle ...

More Blocks and a Mini Completion! from The Modern Diary

This cake block about killed me.  One heart is still not right.  I am over it!
Next was a nice simple block and I raided my HST bin so it was even easier!
Really enjoyed the Crops blocks.  They were fun to make.
These are the Farm Fresh Eggs blocks.  Also nice and simple.  I now have 24 blocks (two sets of 24) and am thinking that should be enough for a few baby quilts.

I decided to quilt a baptist fan on this other Bachelor Button Blues quilt too.  I managed to break two buttons while doing it.  Note ...

A Winner and a few flimsies! from The Modern Diary

Decided to make the Red Button Quilt Co. freebie this month--Welcome May.  I do not have much wool and wanted this to be colorful so with the current budget I went with what I had.  I pulled out my bag of already backed with sticky stuff and cut what I could from that.  I had to make brown but otherwise this was already in the bag!  I also pulled out hst's from my bin that were the right size and did a bit of squaring up where needed.  That made this project go fairly quickly!

Next up, figuring out ...

Bachelor Button Blues and Sunflowers! from The Modern Diary

My pair of Bachelor Button Blues quilts are coming along.  They are 14 inches square but look bigger in the picture.  I sewed little colorful buttons on this one (the other one will get buttons today) instead of doing little blue wool flowers.  I started to quilt this one (just around the brown) but have no idea what else to do so it is waiting for inspiration.
I also cut and sewed two Sunny Sunflower blocks yesterday while sewing with Barb.  These were fun to make.

Spring Time Tulips from The Modern Diary

Finished up my Red Button Quilt Company "Simply Quilts" and hung it on the mantle.  Really happy with it.
I also FINALLY finished the flimsy of Grassy Creek!  Hard to find a big enough space with good lighting to get a picture so the front yard (snow barely melted) with shadows from the tree is the best I could do.  I sure miss my bougainvillea (not sure I spelled that right) in Arizona!  It was such a pretty backdrop to my quilts and most everyday the sun cooperated for photos!

I really wanted some spring colored mini quilts so I ...

Simply Quilts and a Health Update from The Modern Diary

I am really enjoying the facebook group Red Button Quilts now that I have found it!  I decided to get the kit for this month's "Simply Quilts" pattern.  The patterns are free each month (join the facebook group and there is a link to the website where you can find the pattern just for that month) but I wanted to work with the wool instead of just my scraps.
I spent the entire day yesterday (besides almost two hours dealing with the lack of space on my smart tv...lots of googling and Kathy's help to fix it ...

Red Button Quilt Company and some UFO's are done! from The Modern Diary

Several years ago Barb and I found a cute Little Red Button Quilt Kit and decided to each make one.  That led to making one of these cute things each year!  They are fun little quilts.  Some use my scraps, and others were little kits.
This one is really small.

I finished up the quilting and binding on this one the other day.  No masterpiece (those hearts, lol) but fun to make.  I decided on this colorway instead of just reds and pinks because I already had the log cabin done and left from the itty bitty blocks.  Pattern is ...

Minis in Progress! from The Modern Diary

Hazel came for the day Wednesday.  Wore me out,  but we had fun!  Her first full day away from Mom and Dad!
She did let me sew up clue one of the Kathleen Tracy mystery(from a facebook quilting group).  Later on I did clue two.  Nice easy clues for a mini quilt.

Yesterday I was able to sew most of the day and so made this little Red Button Quilt.  I just found the facebook group (I used to be on the yahoo group a decade ago!) and they offer a freebie each month and this one (Follow Your ...
